Heritage Volunteers may be asked to help conserve or catalogue books, manuscripts, archives and maps, conserve or clean textiles or metalwork, or act as guides or stewards in museums, historic houses or gardens.
Appropriate training is given by professionals. Volunteers help with conservation and preservation of our heritage in non-specialist but vital ways by caring for collections and recording documents.
If you become a Heritage Volunteer, you will work in local museums, gardens, galleries, historic houses, libraries or churches doing a wide range of work that includes guiding and stewarding, caring for collections, archiving papers, transcribing documents, refurbishing books, conserving textiles and cleaning artefacts.
By doing this you will help conserve and preserve our cultural heritage and ease the burden on the limited resources of our cultural institutions and places.
The Arts Society will ensure you are trained for this rewarding work by professional conservators, curators and advisors.
We do not have any Heritage Volunteers or Church Recorders at the moment but would be very happy to help and support you if there is a project, no matter how small, that you would like to start. We would welcome someone on to our committee to promote this aspect for us.
